Seven Brides Brewing: A Tour in Silverton, Oregon

Seven Brides GlassesIt is difficult to explain the feeling I get when I visit a new brewery. Overall, I feel as though the experience is ineffable; words just can’t provide enough imagery to truly capture the experience, thus failing miserably in accurately conveying to the readers the scope of awesomeness that has taken place.

But, if I must analogize for the readers out there, it would be similar to being a child trick-or-treating on a street where every other house is a Toys “R” Us and the end of the evening culminates with a trip to the North Pole in Santa’s sleigh. Pretty bitchin’, I know.

Recently, I hitched up the team and took the sleigh to Seven Brides Brewing in Silverton, Oregon. I was invited to this establishment after meeting head brewer Josiah Kelley at a Halloween party. I was already a fan of the offerings from this brewery so this fortuitous encounter worked out well.

8 Portland Area IPAs You Should Be Drinking

IPAIn the craft beer world, one style reigns supreme as the true king of beers – the IPA. For years the love affair Americans have had with the style has caused most craft brewers to brew some type of IPA to please their customer base, especially in the northwest.

The broad spectrum of beers in this style has been increasing over the years giving consumers options that haven’t always existed. From traditional English style IPAs to East and West Coast American styles, imperial/double IPAs, Belgian IPAs, and a wide range of everything in between, you can’t hardly go any where without seeing one on draft.

Oregon Brewers Festival 2013 Recap

Oregon Brewers Festival 2013With August upon us it means that the Oregon Brewers Festival has come to an end. If you made it to the festival, chances are you most likely had a good time (unless you happened to come Saturday evening when the lines were crazy long) and drank some outstanding beers.

For me, I was at my booth most of the time during all 5 days promoting my Beer Lover’s Oregon book and talking to a ton of people about craft beer in the state.

Needless to say I met a lot of amazing people. I’ve said it before, but craft beer fans and industry folk are some of the friendliest and most down to earth people I’ve met and hung out with. The fantastic people I talked to made being there 5 days in a row an absolute blast (drinking beer helped as well).

Widmer Brothers New Releases Keep Coming

Last night I was fortunate enough to attend a private event that Widmer Brothers Brewing put on at a new place in Portland simply called BEER (1410 Se Stark Street). At the event they served up a couple of their newest releases, a few seasonals, and some classics such as Pitch Black.

One thing I’ve noticed about Widmer is that they aren’t content with keeping the same old line up of beers. Sure they have their classics such as their Hefeweizen and Drop Top, however they aren’t afraid to try a wide variety of styles.
